It all started with Covid, like so many things these days! When schools closed, I reluctantly agreed to teach my struggling kindergartener to read. I had taught English in several countries to dozens of students, but I was very nervous about teaching my own child. We started with Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and then moved to Logic of English, and we loved both of these programs.

However, my 6 year old was constantly disappointed that he couldn’t read “real” books. So I started making him some, and now I can’t stop! I love making books that kids can read and want to read.

What’s with the acorns?

The Burke house has always been a little nuts.

  • At one point I had to make bread exclusively out of nut flour for one of my kiddos.

  • And we live on Rustic Oak Ct.

  • Plus acorns are great - there is a ton of potential in each little one. If they are cared for well, they grow to be a safe home for critters and a source of respite from the sun.

That’s what we want for our kids, to care for them well and watch them grow to their highest potential.
